Adolescence

Adolescence is a time of transition when a child becomes a young adult.  It presents a myriad of issues and challenges that can make the transition from childhood to adolescence the most difficult period of a young life.  It becomes even more challenging as it rekindles previously unaddressed issues that can leave your adolescent :

  • Detached emotionally
  • Having difficulties adjusting to a changing body that results in anorexia, bulimia…..
  • Unable to form bonds with friends and poor social skills
  • Unengaged at school with trouble completing assignments
  • Struggling to connect at home to parents
  • Depressed and unable to express their feelings and more….

What can be done to ease the pain of this transition:

Consult a psychotherapist is the first step that can be taken to feel better.

 I offer :

  • Initial consultation with the family helps to understand the adolescent’s history and environment
  • A psychotherapy that can help restore links and connections between the child that used to be and the adult in the making, between the adolescent and his peers and/or his family, but also between the adolescent and him/herself
  • Psychological testing can also be recommended as it provides an instant overview of the adolescent’s psychological functioning that can help the psychotherapy.

What are the benefits ?

After this Therapy the adolescent will be better able to :

  1. Identify the main hurts, habits, hang-ups or thoughts that contribute to their struggle to leave childhood for young adulthood
  2. Articulate how they feel stuck and use a simple question to get unstuck….
  3. Recognize disempowering patterns that prevent ease of transition and develop more ease with self and others
  4. Define new ways to handle the difficulties.
  5. Your child feels better and so do you !

In a world more and more focused on appearances, it has become increasingly difficult to talk about emotions and feelings. It remains, however, the best way to address difficulties and to feel better. Scheduling the first appointment is a courageous step, sometimes difficult to take. Look at it as the surest way to feel better, the entrance to a path towards well-being.
